In today’s fast-paced world, navigating the right career path can overwhelm you, especially when peers around you seem to have it all figured out. Yet, for many, exploring and discovering the right fit in tech takes time and self-reflection.
This success story from a Dataleum Alumna, Favour Edwards highlights her journey from feeling lost in the tech world to becoming a Business Intelligence Data Analyst. Read on to learn how she found her path in data analytics with Dataleum’s support.
Here is what Favour has to say:
Q1: What were you doing before you decided to pursue a tech skill or data analytics?
During my university days, I often felt lost because most of my friends and coursemates were into software engineering, and I knew I didn’t really have a flair for that. I was studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering but struggled to find my own path within the tech space.
During my SIWES year, an engineer I worked with stressed the importance of data analysis. After doing some research, I realized that Data Analytics aligned more with my strengths and interests. I officially began my data analytics journey in my final year (2022) and have been dedicated to growing ever since.
Q2: Can you share your experience with Dataleum during the training and after?
Before discovering Dataleum, I had attempted to teach myself data analysis using YouTube tutorials and minor boot camps. However, I struggled to find a proper roadmap to advance my career in data analytics. The only tool I was really comfortable with was Microsoft Excel.
My journey with Dataleum started in June 2023, after winning their International Women’s Day scholarship for their Beginners Data Analytics Course. My experience with Dataleum was transformative.
The facilitators deeply understood the key concepts necessary to build a solid foundation in data analytics. I created my first Power BI dashboard at Dataleum. After completing the training, I was more motivated than ever to continue learning. In May 2024, I became a Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate, scoring 927/1000.
Q3: What do you currently do now, and is there anything you’d like to add?
I currently work as a Business Intelligence Data Analyst at OmniRetail. I’m grateful to Dataleum for the incredible support they provided in helping me build my data career. I 100% recommend Dataleum to anyone struggling to find direction in their data analytics journey.
Tips to Guide Your Data Analytics Journey

- Seek Mentorship or Guidance: Surround yourself with professionals who can guide you, like the engineer who introduced her to data analytics during her SIWES year. These mentors can provide insights and direction.
- Structured Learning: While self-learning has its value, Dataleum’s structured programs offer a clear roadmap and help you build a strong foundation in essential tools like Power BI and Excel.
- Stay Committed: Once you begin, stay persistent. Certifications can open doors and show your expertise.
